Flatten The Mountain Mechanics Guide

Quick answer: mine blocks for Cash, upgrade Player/Drones/Turrets in the Skill Tree, hunt buried chests for Gems, dodge the eagle's red warning strip, and flatten layers toward the summit — now across two maps, since The Moon opened on September 25, 2026.

This reference separates what the developer's own surfaces confirm from what community documentation reports with dates. The loop, currencies, server size, and update timestamps are official; the Skill Tree costs, pickaxe roster, chest values, and layer totals are dated community snapshots, labeled as such — and everything captured before the September 25 update carries that warning, because "a faster Mountain" changes the numbers it was measured against.

Currencies

Two currencies, two shops

Mixing these up is the most common planning mistake in incremental mining games.

Cash

Official

In-run progression currency. Spent in the Skill Tree on Player, Drone, and Turret upgrades while you mine.

Earned by mining mountain blocks (official description).

Gems

Fan guide

Meta currency. Spent in the lobby Pickaxe Store on permanent mining tools; the store also lists Robux prices.

Reported from buried chests and mountain completions (dated records below).

Progression

The Skill Tree: three tracks

Track and node names are community-documented from September 1–2, 2026 menu observations. The developer publishes no node tables, so prerequisites, max levels, and post-update costs are not stated here.

Player

Damage, Mine Speed, Mine Distance, Auto Mine

Improves your own swinging: damage per hit, swing pace, reach, and hands-free mining.

Mine Distance I was documented at 18 studs; Auto Mine (~$200 in the September 2 snapshot) reduced repeated clicking but still needed aiming.

Drones

Drone I–IV, Damage, Rate, Speed, Range

Automated miners that keep chewing blocks while you move, dodge the eagle, or climb to a new layer.

Drone I ($5) was the earliest automation purchase in the documented economy.

Turrets

Turret I–III, Damage, Rate, Orbit Speed

Orbit the mountain and beam blocks from a distance; a September 1 guide described them as defensive.

Turret I cost about $23 in the September 2 snapshot — roughly four times Drone I.

Documented nodeReported costSnapshot date
Damage I (Player)$1September 2, 2026
Drone I$5September 2, 2026
Turret Damage II$20September 1, 2026
Turret I~$23September 2, 2026
Drone Speed I$37September 1, 2026
Auto Mine (Player)~$200September 2, 2026

Reading the snapshot: the documented opening is Damage I for $1 (about three voxels per swing), Drone I at $5 as the first automation, Turret I around $23 if you prefer orbital coverage, and Auto Mine near $200 as the hands-free milestone. All predate the September 25 update — verify live prices before budgeting a run around them, and use the upgrade comparison tool to test one change at a time.

Equipment

Pickaxes: the permanent layer

The lobby Pickaxe Store spends Gems (or Robux) on tools that persist across runs.

The documented September 1 store roster, in listed order: Stone Pick, Golden Pick, Darkite Pick, Amethyst Pick, Miner's Dream, Glitch Pick, Nature Pick, Angel Pick, Lava Pick, Storm Hammer. Only the top entry had a captured price: the Storm Hammer at 396 Gems, whose Thundercall passive is a 5% chance on hits to destroy the struck block outright (dated September 2, 2026). A recorded Storm Hammer run finished in 33:24 against a 51:15 earlier run — suggestive, but uncontrolled.

A pickaxe does not replace the in-run Skill Tree: tools are the meta layer bought with Gems, while drones, turrets, and Player nodes are the per-run layer bought with Cash. The fastest documented run combined all three. Pickaxe status guide.

Hazard

The eagle

The game's only hostile, and the reason automation matters.

Warning system

An "EAGLE INCOMING!" alert precedes the attack, and a visible red warning strip shows the flight path across the mountain (documented in a September 2, 2026 illustrated run).

Behavior

The eagle deals damage on contact. Target selection, attack schedule, and exact damage have not been published by the developer.

Counterplay

Stop mining, close menus that block your view, and move fully outside the red zone — sliding along inside the strip is not enough. Drones and turrets keep mining while you reposition.

Open question

Sources disagree on whether turrets act defensively against the eagle (a September 1 guide says yes; a September 2 guide treats the pass as pure downtime). No kill or reward mechanic for the eagle is documented.

Structure

Layers, height, and the reported totals

Reported community snapshot from September 2, 2026 — before the update that promised a faster Mountain. Treat as scale reference, not specification (checked 2026-10-20).

ClaimReported valueStatusDated
Layer count89 layersReportedSeptember 2, 2026
Mountain height534 metersReportedSeptember 2, 2026
Total blocks~9,400 blocksReportedSeptember 2, 2026

In practice the mountain is worked as horizontal layers: clear a layer's face, collect what the new interior exposure reveals (chests included), and climb. At the reported ~9,400 blocks, a player sustaining 30 blocks per minute is looking at roughly five hours of raw mining — which is why the automation tracks and the pickaxe store exist. Track your own layer pace with a repeatable timed sample and project it in the calculator.

Questions

Mechanics FAQ

What do you actually do in Flatten The Mountain?

You mine a block-built mountain flat so sunlight returns to your tanning spot. Blocks pay Cash, Cash buys Skill Tree upgrades across three tracks (Player, Drones, Turrets), buried chests hide Gems for permanent pickaxes, and an eagle periodically strafes the work site behind a red warning strip. All of this is the developer's own description.

What are the three Skill Tree tracks?

Player (Damage, Mine Speed, Mine Distance, Auto Mine) improves your own swinging; Drones (Drone I–IV plus Damage, Rate, Speed, Range) mine while you move; Turrets (Turret I–III plus Damage, Rate, Orbit Speed) orbit the mountain and beam blocks. Dated snapshot costs: Damage I $1, Drone I $5, Turret I ~$23, Auto Mine ~$200.

How does the eagle work?

An "EAGLE INCOMING!" alert and a red warning strip precede each pass; the eagle deals damage on contact. The supported counterplay is leaving the red zone entirely while drones or turrets keep mining. Attack schedule and damage values are not published anywhere.

How big is the mountain?

A September 2, 2026 community snapshot reported 89 layers, 534 meters, and roughly 9,400 blocks — reported figures, not official specifications, and captured before the September 25 update that made the Mountain faster.

What is the Moon map?

The second map, opened by the September 25, 2026 update the developer called the biggest since launch, alongside a new enemy and a faster Mountain. Its objectives and rewards have no public documentation yet; the place is listed live as The Moon (place 96711159054645).
